Designing simple pot inserts for indoor plants

Simple Pot Insert

One thing they don't tell you about becoming an indoor plant enjoyer and cheap pot collector, is that the plastic pots your brand new plants come in more than likely wont fit into the cheap pots you 'rescued' from the 3 for $10 section of the local Pots'n'Statues type store filled with authentic fibreglass Buddha statues in crates next to 200 small ceramic gnomes made by the shop owners friend, who apparently also puts 'made in China' stickers on the bottom.

The issue with most off the shelf indoor pots (not the self-watering ones) is that old water cannot drain out nor is there any ventilation to allow it to evaporate. Leaving the soil to become a cool, damp place to harbor insects, molds and root rot.

Seeking to reduce the houseplant mortality rate and leapfrogging off my experience in FreeCAD designing my tomato support frames, I jumped into designing a super simple pot insert and stand for the three key sizes of pot we have around the house.
